As a little surprise for today I have asked Kozue, an AMAZING stamp carving artist from Japan  but who is currently living in the USA, to share some advice 🙂

Her stamps are really wonderful!

I love her girls faces, so expressive and detailed!

And the way she makes two different stamps: one  to add the color of the hair or pink cheeks or for makig the shadows of the house or the girls bubblegum! Its a great way to also use stamps in  parts. This way you gain so much more of a stamp!

ok, so here are Kozue´s words:

Hello, My name is Kozue. I’m a rubber stamp carver. I got inspired from Japanese rubber carvers and I started to carving myself.

Ever since then, I’ve been addicted carving rubber stamps.

I recommend anybody interested to give it a try ! My tips for beginners are

1.Try to start carving from a simple design. ( heart, star, flower etc….)
2. Try to use different materials if you can find some different rubbers.
3.Try to use different tools to find what suits you. (gouge, cutter knife…)
4.- I think the image transfer process is very important, from tracing the image on tracing paper to transferring that image to the rubber. Trace the lines very carefully.

Y, como una sorpresa para hoy, os dejo con esta pequeña entrevista a Kozue una artista de sellos, de Japón pero que vive actualmente en Estados Unidos.

Sus sellos son realemente magníficos!

Me encantan las caritas de las chicas! tan detalladas y expresivas!

Y la manera en que utiliza los sellos en dos partes: una para definir los rasgos de la cara y dibujar la cabeza, y la otra para dar esos toques de color tanoriginales que logran que el resultado resalte tanto, ya que añade volumen en caso de los rostros o un toque muy simpático como el gorrito de la primera chica de arriba en naranja o las sombras de las casitas o la pompa de chicle de la niña : )

Bueno, os dejo con las palabras de Kozue:

Hola, Me llamo Kozue. Soy una carvadora de sellos. Mi inspiración proviene de los carvadores de goma japoneses y por eso empecé a carvar yo también. Desde entonces me he vuelto adicta a carvar sellos.

Os recomiendo si estáis interesados en carvar sellos que lo intentéis! Mis consejos para principiantes son:

1. Empezad carvando un diseño sencillo ( corazón,estrella, flor, etc)

2.-Intentad utilizar diferentes materiales si podéis encontrar distintos tipos de gomas.

3.- Probad a utilizar diferentes herramientas que os vayan bien ( cutter, gubia..) – Kozue hace la mayor parte de sus sellos con un cutter!! lo cual me parece una auténtica proeza y más cuando ves los resultados!-

4.- Creo que el proceso de transferir imágenes es muy importante, trazarlo al papel y luego transferirla a la goma. Trazad las líneas muy cuidadosamente.
