I have always loved mexican “papel picado” or paper cuttings  folk art . When I was a little girl, I lived in  México for  about four years.

One of the things I remember very vividly was going to the markets on sunday with my family and just loving ALL that color Mexico is so famous about! Their fruit, their traditional fabric, artcrafts, the way they decorate the streets and the markets in every local or national festivity..amazing!

One of those traditional decorations were the paper cuttings hunged everywhere!! What a lovely feast of shapes and colors!

Siempre he adorado el papel picado mexicano. Es un arte popular maravilloso!

Cuando era niña, viví unos cuatro años en México y una de las cosas que más recuerdo vívidamente es ir a los mercados los domingos y quedar impresionada por todo ese color tan característico de México!

Sus puestos de frutas, sus telas y trajes populares, sus artesanias, la manera en la que decoran las calles y los propios mercados en cada festividad..increíble!

Una de esas decoraciones tradicionales era la que se hacía con el papel picado. Los colgaban por todas partes! qué banquete de color para la vista!

About a week ago I was at paperchase, a paper and stationary items shop and found some really cute cards inspired also by the mexican “papel picado”.

It ocurred to me, that wouldn´t it be wonderful to have a stamp with that kind of design on it?

So I went ahead and  tried to carve one..

Hace una semana me paseaba por la papelería paperchase y encontré unas tarjetas inspiradas precisamente en el papel picado.

Se me ocurrió que sería maravilloso tener un sello carvado con esos motivos.

Así es que me lancé sin pensarlo a carvar uno..

It was a bit tricky..but fun and I liked the end result : )

I stamped it with black ink onto the same kind of paper they use for the papel picado..really colored ones..

Me llevó su tiempo y tuvo su truco,pero me gusta el resultado final : )

Lo estampé con tinta negra en el mismo tipo de papel que utilizan ..los más llamativos y coloridos posibles..

What can I say? I really love it and it brings me back such good memories of a happy childhood : )

Qué puedo decir? realmente me encanta! sobretodo porque me trae recuerdos de una infancia feliz : )
