Spring has a special kind of magic…Makes you want to clean your house ( ask my Friend Geo about this), embark on new proyects, and fill your life with color!

…lovely colors and lovely projects indeed!SOme people get married, some have babies and some like me, sew a quilt! ; )

La Primavera tiene una magia especial..Te hace querer limpiar la casa ( y si no,pregúntenle a mi amiga Geo ), empezar con nuevos proyectos también primaverales y llenar la vida de color!..

hermosos colores y proyectos sin duda alguna..Algunas personas se casan,otras tienen bebés; yo por ejemplo coso un manta! ; )

It´s my second quilt ever! the first one came out ok,not perfect but it´s a nice little quilt to snuggle up on the couch!

As for the second one…it ocurred to me to sew a new one, when I saw Anna Marias Horner´s Fabric…GORGEOUS . A healthy dose of Springly colors and flowers!

E mi segunda mantita! ! La primera no salió perfecta,pero bueno nos sirve para taparnos( las piernas) en el sillón!

La segunda me dieron ganas de coserla cuando vi las telas tan bonitas de Anna Maria Horner. Una buena y sana dosis de primavera y flores!

But to be honest, I´m a little afraid to ruin such a lovely fabric…I really dont know how to put this quilt together and I really want it to come out great! because the fabric (and the money) are sure worth it!

So I´ll try to sew it very very carefully and iron! ( something I didn´t do the last time)

Para ser honesta, tengo un poco de “miedo” de que no me salga bien y me cargue la tela! Quiero que salga bien!!! porque la tela ( y la inversión) lo merecen!

Así es que esta vez me prometo coserla despacito y con calma y con la plancha al lado ( un gran crimen prescindir de ella en esto de coser quilts)

And I know it wont be perfect but to cover my self with these fabrics that are filled with so much  joy, so much color and light…..oh that must be a lovely feeling! : )

Y sé que aun así no quedará como me gustaría pero sólo imaginar taparme con estas telas que desprenden tanta alegría, color y luz..que sensación tan bonita! : )

As I mentioned yesterday, today I would show you my firts knitting proyect!

The videos that taught me,and which I found to be very practical , can be seen here and here. They are very well explained.

I know I said I knitted a Scarf, but It´s actually a neckwarmer. The size of the nedless I used were nº 7 and a  grey chunky yarn. For me, kntting with that sizeof needles and  thicker yarn made it easier. I´m Knitting now wit a 3.5 needles and  its been a bit more difficult!

Para este calentador de cuello utilicé unas agujas del número 7 y una lana un poco gruesa. El proceso fué más fácil y rápido que con las agujas y la lana fina.En fín, aquí está…

Keni kindly acceded to let me take a picture of him with the scarf on( he rather be running and playing around the house). And he was so sweet ! he told me I did a nice job and gave me a kiss ♥ Also he said he likes this one because it doesn´t get in his way as normal scarfs do. I offered the neckwarmer, but he said he preffered if I knitted him one with the colors of the rainbow! ( so I began to search for that type of yarn! any clues?)

Keni amablamente me dejó sacarle una foto con ella puesta! (gran esfuerzo por su parte cuando lo que prefiere siempre es correr y jugar por la casa, no se está quieto)  : ) Fue muy dulce, me dijo que “hice un buen trabajo” y me dio un besito y que  le ha gustado mucho, sobretodo porque no se le cae a cada rato ni le cuelga como las bufandas normales y eso le molestaba mucho. Pero dice también que no quiere ésta- se la ofrecí- Él prefiere que le teja una en color arcoiris! : ) ( alguna pista de dónde se puede conseguir?)

Esta foto de las agujas la he sacado y os las muestro porque son unas agujas bastante viejas,pero me parecen preciosas ! la de color turquesa y la de madera…simplemente me encantan!

Oh, I almost forgot, I wanted to say that this sudden urge to learn how to knitt came for reading for almost two years now, Amanda a.k.a Soulemama´s blog! If you read her too, then you know  what I´m talking about!…she knitts the most beautiful things for her four, soon to be five children!..and so I couldn´t resist it anymore and I started to knitt because of her!♥

Also, as I read on Tuesdays comments that many of you also wanted to learn how to knitt, if some of you want to share some resources ( books, videos, tips..etc) with us, it would be awesome and I think many of us would feel VERY grateful indeed! so thank you!♥

ok, so, todays menu is fabric buttons!

It´s just one of those things I want to share because it´s really cool. Learning how to make this fabric buttons can allow you to use them in so many different ways!

first you need the “equipment”:

Bueno, así es que en el menú de hoy tenemos ..Botones de tela!

Es una de esas cosas que descubrí hace tiempo y me encantó porque puedes hacer tantas otras cosas a partir de ellos!

Primero hace falta el “equipo de trabajo o ensamblaje”:

The “cover button assembly tool” + the buttons  can be found in craft stores and also online. Here´s where I bought mine ( and they are really cheap)

La herramienta para cubrir los botones + los botones pueden encontrarse en tiendas de manualidades o mercerías o online. Yo compré las mías aquí ( y son muy baratas)

Then you need some scraps of your favorite fabric

Its much more easier and practical if instead of showing you step by step and explaining step by step how I did, I give you this link, to a very easy how to video.

utilicé estos para adornar mi bufanda! ( mañana os la enseño)

Besides using them as buttons for a dress or a shirt, you can sew them to a felt flower and make a lovely brooch..

Además de utilizarlos propiamente como botones para una camisa, bolso,etc, podéis coserla a una flor de fieltro  con un impredible atrás y ya tenéis un bonito pin!

And there are so many more ideas! like these hair pins or how about if you glue them to a headband or a ring or a necklace…anything else that you can think of?

Y hay muchas más ideas! como estos pasadores para el pelo o pegarlos en una diadema, en una collar o un anillo..qué más cosas se os ocurren?

this are the type of things I like! you invest very llitle money, its easy, fun and the results are so nice for making  wonderful handmade presents.♥

Sometimes I make things and I think it´s maybe not worth blogging about it, but then I think, why not? its always so nice to share good ideas that have been very practical to me in many ways, so I hope you have enjoyed this post!

Éstas son las cosas que me gustan! se invierte poco dinero, es muy fácil y divertido y el resultado da para mucho!

En ocasiones me pienso dos veces si escribir este tipo de posts porque hago muchas cosas o manualidades de este tipo pero no sé si son lo suficientemente intersantes como para el blog..pero luego digo, yo creo que sí pueden interesar y sobretodo dan pie para nuevas ideas. Así es que espero que hayáis disfrutado el post de hoy! que tengáis un hermoso Miercoles! ♥

I’m still thinking about last fridays post. How to achieve more spending less. When we moved from Spain we had to sell all our furniture. It was too expensive to take it with us. The only “”furniture” I did bring with me was my white mirror. It was a “free” find and  in such a good condition. I almost felt sorry for it, why would someone dump such a beautiful mirror? But on the other hand,good thing they did, because I found it! all it needed was a fresh coat of white paint and a little bit of love to make it look this pretty! Any way, we have to get new furniture for the new house here, and all at once can be a lot of money. Good thing they have pretty nice flea markets here!

Todavia estoy pensando en el ultimo post del Viernes. Como conseguir mas, gastando menos. Cuando nos mudamos de Espana tuvimos que vender todos nuestros muebles. Era demasiado caro llevarnoslos. La unica pieza que si me lleve, fue mi espejo redondo. Lo encontre tirado en la calle en tan perfecto estado. Casi hasta me dio lastima por el. Por que alguien tiraria un espejo tan grande y bonito? quiza tambien se mudaban. Pero que bueno que lo hicieran porque asi me lo quede yo! Todo lo que ncesitaba era un par de capas de pintura y un poquito de amor para que quedara asi de bonito.

Bueno, pues como decia, comprar de nuevo todos los muebles aqui puede salir caro, que bien que tengan rastros muy interesantes!

Also, these photos I selected for today get me thinking about being creative on a budget..Its not what you have, is how you use it..I already said that..I know, but just look at how nice these old things are displayed ( first photo to the right), or how beautiful this handmade  cushion looks. And the flowers, they really make a place look so cozy..freshly picked flowers from the garden. A Whole bunch in a flower vase or just a single one in a cup, placed by the window sill..wow! to me simplicity is the mother of beauty! And just take a look at the papier mache bowls….stunning! This is what I mean about being creative! !!! You dont need to spend so much money, just get creative! here are some ideas you can try at home.At last but not least the beautiful stretched fabric on the canvas. The last photo to the right. Art doesnt need to be expensive either. Another idea on how to frame fabric can be found here.

Well, so this are things that certainly get me going.. I’ll try as many of these as I can! thats for sure! I hope this has inspired you to make your own home more cozy and unique!!!!! have a beautiful ( and creative) day friends!!!!

Estas fotos que he seleccionado para hoy me hacen pensar en ser creativo cuando se tiene un presupuesto…no es lo que tienes sino como lo utilizas…ya lo he dicho antes, lo se, pero mirad estos objetos viejos que bien se ven ( primera foto a la derecha) o el cojin de abajo, cosido a mano. y las flores, siempre hacen que una habitacion se vea tan acogedora. Un monton puestas en un jarron o una sola en un tazon apoyada en la ventana..wow! la simplicidad es la madre de las cosas bellas. Y observad a los cuencos de papel mache…increibles! A esto me refiero con ser creativo. NO se necesita gastar tanto para poner la casa bonita. Solo hace flata un poco de imaginacion, creatividad y buenas ideas. Aqui os muestro algunas que podeis intentar en casa. Modificadlas a vuestro gusto! Y por ultimo pero no menos bonito, la tela que se ha enmarcado para hacerla parecer una pintura.Es la ultima foto de abajo a la derecha. El “arte! no tiene porque ser tan caro. Una tela bonita puede hacer maravillas! otra idea de enmarcar tela la podeis encontrar aqui.

Bueno, estas son las cosas que me hacen estar activa..intentare tantas ideas de estas como pueda, eso seguro! Espero que os haya inspirado a vosotros tambien a tener un espacio mas acogedor y unico! que tengais un dia creativamente maravilloso!

A couple of days ago I came up with this little  bunny pincushion. Very easy to sew but I have to confess I can´t use for the pins anymore..I dont like to needle this cute face! neither did the kids like it when they saw me. So I was just allowed to do it once, just for the picture. After that, it wasn´t a pincushion  anymore but just a plush for the kids. They “rescued” him,  cuddle him at night and tuck it to bed, so I´m guessing it is a better life for a pincushion, I mean, bunny..

Hace unos días hice este alfiletero de conejito. Fue muy fácil coserlo, pero tengo que confesar que no lo puedo utilizar más para los alfileres.  No puedo clavárselos en su carita que me mira! Tampoco le gustó ésto a mis hijitos cuando me vieron hacerlo. Así es que sólo lo hice una vez para la foto. Después dejó de ser un alfiletero y se convirtío  oficialmente en peluche para los niños.  Lo “rescataron” y ahora lo abrazan por las noches y duerme con ellos, así es que imagino que esta sí es una mejor vida para un alfiletero, digo, conejito de peluche.

I know we are all very busy with the Christmas season. Planning dinners, buying or making presents ,having our little ones at home entertained..

But I find that is specially  important in these days that  we need to do something with our hands to keep our interior balance. Here´s one of those little projects I have been wanting to make for a while. I never know where to put my Ipod when I listen to it.Pockets dont seem to work for me, so here´s a little bag to carry it .It didn´t take me more than 30 min.

What do I listen to?  well I specially love Loreena Mackennitt,Enya, Poems by Mario Benedetti, Eva Cassidy, among others..

Sé que estamos todos muy ocpuados con las vacaciones de Navidad. Planeando cenas, comprando o haciendo regalos, teniendo entretenidos  en casa a nuestros pequeñines..

Pero considero que esespecialmente importante estos dias, hacer algo con nuestras manos para mantener el balance interior. Éste es uno de esos pequeños proyectos, que he querido hacer desde hace tiempo. Nunca se dónde meter el reproductor de Mp3.  Los bolsillos no funcionan muy bien para mí.  Así que ésta es una pequeña bolsita para llevarlo. No me llevó más de 30 min.

Qué qué escucho? pues especialmente me encanta Lorenna Mckennitt, Enya, poemas de Mario Benedetti, Eva Cassidy, entre otros..

I´ve been wanting to show you this zakka project my friend and I did a couple of weeks ago. I was really excited with this bag. Like everything else I see when creating, is a white canvas in which I can put all my imagination..I got inspired by the japanese fabric. The little girl going to buy some flowers and bread.. and thought of it as a good “theme”. I gathered the materials I had and started playing.  This is my first bag ever! It is a very common bag and easy to sew. The rest is in the details.

For the embroidery I used red and white bakers twine. I just love it. The flower and the heart are felt broochs and the apple is a fabric covered button. And the bias tape..some red chickens they had at the  sewing store.

You know, some people say they are not creative and cant make these things. My sisters included. But I always tell them that is NOT true. We are  ALL creative. But I belive creativity is also like a muscle you need to excercise. Kids do it all the time and come up with the greatest and creative ideas! And also because they never tend to think they aren´t creative.

Be creative. Live creativily. Wether if you sew, cook, paint, write…the secret is to have fun doing what you do and the rest will come by it self.

He querido enseñaros este proyecto que una amiga y yo hicimos hace unas semanas. Estaba muy emocionada con este bolso. Como todo lo demás que veo cuando creo, es un lienzo en blanco en el cual poner toda la imaginación. Me inspiré por esta tela japonesa de la niña comprando pan y flores. y pensé que sería un buen tema. Reuní todo el material que tenía y comencé a jugar. Ésta es mi primera bolsa! Es muy común y fácil de coser. El resto está en los detalles.

Para bordar utilicé bakers twine en blanco y rojo.Me encanta ese hilo! La flor y el corazón son broches y la manzana es un botón de tela forrado. La cinta del biés es de unas gallinas rojas que encontré en la tienda de costura.

Siempre escucho a mucha gente decir que no son creativos y nunca podrían hacer estas cosas. Mis hermanas incluidas. Pero siemre les digo que NO es verdad. TODOS somos creativos,pero creo que la creatividad es un músculo que hay que ejercitar. Los niños lo hacen todo el tiempo y tienen las mejores y más creativas ideas! Y también porque nunca piensan que no puedan ser creativos.

Sé Creativa. Vive creativamente. Ya sea que coses, cocinas, pintas, escribes….el secreto está en DIVERTIRTE y el resto vendrá solo.

Estoy muy contenta de mostraros mi primera mantita de quilt. He querido hacerla desde hace mucho tiempo. Como soy una principiante es imperfecta ( no miréis demasiado cerca ; )

Pero realmente me lo pasé muy bien cosiéndola. Además me encanta las telas japonesa de karaku. Pero lo que me gusta todavía más es lo que me transmite. No sólo calienta el cuerpo, sino también el corazón, de verdad. Es casi como un abrazo. Tal vez  sea porque estoy orgullosa de ella aunque no haya quedado perfecta, o porque es de lo que se trata lo hecho a mano después de todo. La energía y el amor que le imbuimos a lo que hacemos. Ahora me pregunto por qué no había hecho esto antes. Creo que  ya sé qué regalarle a mis hijitos por Navidad…

I´m so happy to finally show you my firts quilt!!! I´ve been wanting to do it for a long time. Since I´m a begginer you can see is less than perfect ( don´t look too close ; ) But I REALLY had a wonderful time sewing and putting it together . Plus, I love the japanese fabric from Karaku. But what I love even most is the feeling of it. It not only warms up my body, but it also the heart, honestly. It´s almost like a hug. Maybe  this is because I´m so proud of it even if its not perfect or maybe because like they say thats what handmade is all about. The energy and love you put into making something with your hands. Now I wonder whay hadn´t I done this before…  ; ) I think I know what to give my children for Christmas…

Detesto desperdiciar bolsas de plástico cuando voy de compras. Siempre llevo bolsas de tela conmigo.

Aquí en España es muy común comprar todos los días una barra de pan para la comida. Quería hacer una bolsa que fuese del mismo tamaño. Una querida amiga y yo hicimos esta bolsa para el pan. La tela es de un trozo de tela de los antiguos sacos de azúcar. Fue muy fácil embellecer con el biés y la flor de fieltro. Fue divertido hacerla y lo que es más importante, es que ayuda a reducir la contaminación de las bolsas de plástico, es nuestra prioridad en casa cuando compramos y claro, reciclar siempre! es lo menos que podemos hacer por nuestra amada tierra.

I hate to waste plastic bags whenever I go shopping. I always carry fabric totes with me.

Here in Spain is very common to buy everyday your loaf of  bread for supper. I wanted a bag just for this purpose that had the exact size. A dear friend and I worked together on this project.

The fabric is from a vintage piece of sugar sack. And it was really easy to embellish with the flower bias tape and the felt flower. It was fun to make and what´s most important it helps to reduce plastic waste which is always my priority when I go shopping or at home, where we recycle everything! It´s the least we can do for our beloved earth.
