Ebony Bizys is a graphic designer  from Asutralia whose love for Japan led her to move to Tokyo in 2010. She started sharing  and record her new life on her  blog hello sandwich.

Along with her love for graphic design and japanese gift wraping. Her blog has become very popular as she has a unique voice and passion that shows. She has auto published two books.

Hello again!

See, this little space of mine is growing! and I´m SO,SO, SO happy about that! It´s the result of a daily effort, of love, and attention in every detail, in every post and I want to thank so much for this! for liking it and being part of my small world.

Because of all of this, I been thinking of writing a couple of posts some days of the week. That would allow me to share more with you!! The”handmade finds” was a forgoten section that I wanted to write about again, but there are two more sections I want to show you very soon! and that I hope you´ll like!: )

Este pequeño espacio mio está creciendo! y estoy muy muy feliz! Es el resultado de un esfuerzo y dedicación diarias, de poner mucho cariño y ganas de querer compartir con los demás,así que quiero agradeceros el apoyo y el ser parte de mi mundo: )

Debido a esto, he estado pensando escribir más de un post algunos días de la semana. Aun estoy organizándome,pero me agrada la idea de compartir aun más  las cosas que me gustan!

I love this idea because its a great way to reuse empty glass jars!

why throw them away now ,when you can turn them into pretty flower vases, or pencil cases!So lovely! And if you get tired of the colors you can change them so easily!

Por qué tirarlos cuando se pueden convertir en preciosos jarrones, o lapiceros! qué bonito! Y si os cansáis de los colores se pueden cambiar tan fácilmente!

Writing letters with MT is pretty creative !! Specially when choosing a color palette so pretty as this one on the masking tape and the rest of the elements ( flowers, thread..)

Two packaging examples from the MT site. Its amazing how  little bits of MT enhance the whole package! It reminds me of my cookie bag! only that this one has donuts mmm : )

for the second one: Add some string, and a tag and you´ll have a cheap and lovely package in no time! ( I´ve also seen a version of wrapping with a piece of fabric very similar to this one)

Love this idea! so simple and easy ! just stick a piece of MT to a peg and  glue some magnets on the back to hold your notes on the fridge!

I´m off to try this one right away. And in case you are wondering on where to buy small magnets strong enough to hold the pegs and the notes, here´s a link to an etsy shop! : )

Y esta idea qué os parece? muy original, no? y tan fácil de hacer! Pegad unos trozos de MT a las pinzas y luego unos imanes pequeñitos a la parte de atrás de la misma para que puedan sujetar notas o dibujos en la nevera!

Voy a intentar esta idea ahora mismo! Y en caso de que os preguntéis dónde conseguir imanes tan pequeños y fuertes que aguanten el peso…aquí os dejo un link a una tienda de etsy. Son los mismos imanes que utilicé para los cantos de cristal! son muy muy fuertes.

En lugar de comprar papel para envolver regalos y sólo utilizarlo para envolver, yo prefiero invertir el dinero en diversos materiales para manualidades que potencian la creatividad en todo momento y siempre son  actividades muy divertidas. Sí, sigue siendo comprar,pero no objetos, sino herramientas : )

Hello!! Welcome to the Shrinking plastic tutorial!

I found about Shinking plastic one day while I was at the art section of a store .I had never seen it before,so I was very curious about it.

I bought a package and tried it at home. This is what many artists use to make pretty pins and accessories.

So now I share the “how to” with you! hope you enjoy it!

First : What you need:

Hola y Bienvenidos al tutorial de plástico encogedor ( suena raro pero enseguida vereis porque se llama así)

Me encontré con estas hojitas de plástico encogedor en una visita a la tienda de manualidades y me llamaron mucho la atención. Compré un paquete y lo probé en casa. Es lo que muchos artistas utilizan para hacer accesorios y broches.

Así es que os comparto ” el como” espero que los disfrutéis”

Primero : esto es lo que necesitaréis:

1.- Permanent marker for the outline ( any color you like)

2.- Permanent  markers for coloring in. Although I have found you can use simple color pens. They work quite well too.

3.-The shrinking plastic you can find at art stores or online here.

4.-A pair of scissors

1.- Un rotu permanente de cualquier color

2.- Rotus permanentes de colores o bolis de colores, funcionan también .

3.- El plástico encogedor que imagino que en España no venden( yo nunca lo ví ni oí habalr de él)  se puede encontrar aquí.

4.- Tijeras

oh and a pencil it you want to draw first and then go throught the lines again with the pemanent marker once you are sure thats the design you want.

VERY important is to draw on the non glossy part of the plastic sheet.

So …This is what I drew…one of those cats I normally like to draw..Ah y un lápic con el que dibujar primero vuestro diseño o idea. una vez que tengáis claro lo que será, repasadlo de nuvo con el rotulador permanente.

El plástico tiene dos caras, la cara brillante y la mate, deberéis dibujar sobre la mate,es decir la que no brilla.

Then once I made a few corrections I drew it again in black

Arriba tenéis el dibujo ya repasado con el negro.

Then color it in with the pens…

Luego a colorear con los bolis o rotus …

Once you have colored it cut it out with the scissors.

Una vez dibujado y coloreado a recortar con las tijeras toda la silueta.

and the fun part my kids love: bake it! At a preheated 120 º oven for a few seconds.

You will see how the plastic will twist and bend and shrink and then go back to being flat but …

Y la parte divertida que les encanta a mis hijos: hornear en un horno precalentado a 120º un par de segundos. Veréis cómo el plastico se dobla y retuerce y encoge  hasta que se vuelve a poner plano.

..much smaller and thicker.

..pero mucho más pequeño y más grueso.

In fact your design will be reduced to a 70 % so its a good idea once you draw your design on the plastic sheet to use as much space as possible.

En realidad, vuestro dibujo encongerá un 70  % así es que al dibujarlo es mejor utilizar todo el espacio de la hoja que mide unos 10 cm por 150 aprox

I like to varnish mine to give it a glossy finish.

And then what to do with them or how to use them…

1.- As broochs just gluing on the back a pin

A mí me gusta varnizarlo después para darle un acabo brillante.

Y luego esto es lo que podéis hacer con ellos…

1.- Broches. Sólo hace falta pegar detrás un pin.

2 .- As hair pins

3.- As a necklace charm ( you must punch a hole before shrinkg it)

2.- Trabas para el pelo

3.- Colgantes ( nota: deberéis hacerle un agujero antes de hornearlo)

4.- another type of hair pin

5.- Even a key chain.

As you can see its very easy and un to do this. My kids love it! Well, we all do !  ; )

Una pequeña sorpresita

During the weekend my sons and I did some stamp painting..something that was indeed very simple, but the result was lovely ..so I thought I might share it with you!

Finger stamps

the only two things you need are:

Color inkpads

your fingers

Durante el fin de semana mis hijos y yo utilizamos unos “sellos” muy caseros para hacer unas tarjetas. El resultado es muy majo, así es que pensé en compartirlo: )

sólo necesitáis:

tinta de colores y vuestros dedos

I choose yellow because is the color I´m loving right now..sunny yellow.

Just stamp it into white paper or cardstock.

Elegí amarillo porque es el color que me gusta ahora mucho. Un amarillo soleado.

Sólo hace falta estampar la yema del dedo entintada en una hoja blanca o cartulina.

with a black inkpen I drew some petals around the yellow dots to make some flowers!

then I drew their faces and with some pink their blushes.

Con un boli negro pinté los pétalos alrededor de los circulos amarillos para crear unas sencillas flores!

Luego añadí la carita y con un color rosa las mejillas .

If you want a more colorful garden, you´ll obviously need more color inkpads

We turned these into a thank you card for Keni´s teacher and the other one a little tag for a present.

si queréis un jardín más colorido, necesitaréis lógicamente más tintas de colores.

Nosotros hicimos con esta técnica una tarjeta de agradecimiento para la profesora de Keni y una etiqueta para un regalo.

It cant get more simple or easy than this!

I wasn´t always a very Creative person. Not as I am now at least. And I owe it all to my blog : )

It made me want to really learn and improve my self, and share with everybody. You can go ahead and take a look at my first posts or stamps…I think they are so different to what I do know. But It´s good to take a look back  once in a while and see …I´m very happy and proud of my self,becasue all of this I learned it on my own.

No siempre fuí una persona muy creativa, al menos no como ahora. y se lo debo todo a mi blog: )

Tener un blog me hizo querer realmente aprender y esforzarme por hacer las cosas cada vez mejor,por poder luego compartirlas.

Adelante, leer si queréis mis primeros posts o ved mis primeros sellos…Creo que es todo  muy distinto a como lo hago ahora. Y me gusta mirar hacia atrás de vez en cuando y ver mis avances. Me siento orgullosa porque todo esto lo aprendí sola.

And its quite a valuable lesson for me. Not to hold back from the things I want to know, to experiment. I´ve been learning to knitt lately and my teacher´s name is Mrs . Youtube ya know?

I kept waiting for someone to teach me, for someone to appear and show me.But sometimes that person never shows up or you cant find it.

And you know, I finished my first scarf yesterday!

Y es una lección muy importante para mí. No quedarme con las ganas de hacer las cosas que quiero aprender, experimentar.

He estado aprendiendo a tejer ultimamente y sabéis quién es mi profesora? Youtube! jajaja! si me quedo esperando a encontrar a alguien que me enseñe o quiera..quizá me quede con las ganas y ayer por fin terminé mi primera bufanda!!

So..grab a book, watch a video, read a tutorial online, and best of all just do it and learn it with your own hands and make a LOT of mistakes and keep improving until way day..you´ve got it!

This is what I want to share with you today. I know you know all of this, of course, but sometimes a gentle reminder works for me : ) That we CAN, that we are CAPABLE. All we need is iniciative and be constant.

All of the things you can see above were made by me. I used to buy this type of things ,but now I preffer to make them : the squared notebook, the stamps, the tags, and the little paperweight clay. So simple yet the result is really nice.

Así es que coge un libro, mira un vídeo, lee un tutorial online y sobretodo: simplemente hazlo con tus propias manos y comete MUCHOS errores y continúa mejorando hasta que un día lo tengas!: )

Ésto es lo que quiero compartir hoy. Sé que no estoy dando a descubir una gran verdad, y que ya lo sabéis,pero es bueno que se nos recuerde de vez en cuando. Que PODEMOS, que somos CAPACES. Sólo necesitamos iniciativa y constancia.

Todo lo que está arriba lo hice yo. No son obras maestras, pero me gustan. En el pasado seguramente habría comprado todo esto y me doy cuenta que ya no. Hoy prefiero hacerlas : ) Son: una libreta de cuadritos, unas etiquetas, un móvil de pajaritos, unos sellos y en pisapapeles de barro. Muy simple pero el resultado es bonito.

What I love about this big sized stamps is that I can use them for making tags, sometimes notes, and even…

Lo que me gusta de estos sellos es que son grandes y los puedo utilizar para hacer etiquetas para regalos, a veces notas, en incluso..

to create little scenes, or character for my drawings just by adding smaller stamps such as this flowers.

I end up coloring some more flowers and other details by hand with markers or ink…

…sirven para crear escenarios o personajes en dibujos con la ayuda de otros sellos más pequeños como en este caso florecitas.

Termino por darle uno toques de color con rotuladores o tinta …

..and there you have it! a very “springful” drawing!

..y Listo! un dibujito muy primaveral!

Sticker fun

Since I was a little girl,I´ve loved stickers…who doesn´t? : )

The only problem is that you dont always find ones you like or they are so expensive! Specially now that they come with glitter and pretty things.

So I decided to make my own!

Desde niña siempre me encantaron las pegatinas…a quién no, verdad? especialmente esas que las rascabas y olían tan bien..: )

El problema ahora es que no siempre encuentras algunas que te gusten  o son muy caras, sobretodo ahora que vienen con purpurina y cosas especiales.

Así es que decidí hacer las mías..

All you need is this very cheap circle  labels ( they are very common, so you can find them at any paper store) and some color pens

Todo lo que necesitas son estas etiquetas redondas (muy baratas por cierto ) Las encuentras en cualquier papelería, son muy comunes. y bolis de colores.

And then just draw on them anything you like! little flowers, birds, stars..

Y luego dibuja cualquier cosa que te guste! pequeñas flores, pajaritos, estrellas..

Another idea is to paint the labels with different colors. I used for these, liquid watercolors.

Otra idea es simplemente pintar los adhesivos con diferentes colores. Yo utilicé acuarelas líquidas.

Here´s one of my stickers on an envelope. Sometimes I like to include  as a little present, a whole set in one of the letters I write to my sisters. : )

Aquí está una de mis pegatinas en un sobre. A veces me gusta incluir como un regalito unas cuantas  dentro de las cartas que les escribo a mis hermanas.

And finally, you can also use stamps!

Y finalmente ,también podéis utilizar sellos!
