Every time we sit at our table, We bless our meal. I believe it is very important to do this. In this way we become aware of what we have, of how fortunate we are for having our tables filled with delicious and healthy presents from mother earth.

My kids favourite blessings is much more simple , but it´s oh so lovely and fun! I told them to imagine that their hands where little shakers, but instead of comming out salt and pepper, rainbows would! so, they put their hands on top of their meal with out touching it and shake them happily, while they say out loud, ” rainbows, rainbows…” they stop when they believe it´s well seasoned, coloured and filled with joy. What  food could be better blessed than small hands filling their meals with rainbows?

But I have to say sometimes they get a little crazy and instead of rainbows all  sort of things come out of those sweet hands, like stars, suns, and sometimes, even…DINOSAURS!

Cada vez que nos sentamos a la mesa bendecimos los alimentos. Creo que es muy importante hacerlo. De esa forma tomamos consciencia de lo que tenemos , de lo afortunados que somos al tener siempre nuestra mesa llena de cosas ricas y nutritivas para comer. Y es también importante que los niños lo aprendan y se den cuenta y  se sientan agradecidos. Pero no bendecimos de la manera “tradicional”. Cada quién dice lo que siente en ese momento y quiera compartir con los demás. Yo agradezco a la tierra por su generosidad. Otras veces cuando lo hacemos más largo repasamos todo el proceso que ha llevado a que esos alimentos estén en nuestro plato, desde la semilla, el agricultor, el recolector…

Pero la bencidición favorita de los niños es mucho más simple y divertida. Les dije que imaginaran que sus manitas eran como pequeños saleros..sólo que en vez de salir sal o pimienta, salían arcoiris! Así es que colocan sus manos encima de la comida sin tocarla y las agitan a la vez que pronuncian en alto “arcoiris, arcoiris…” cuando consideran que su comida está bien sazonada, alegre y colorida paran y ahora sí, a comer! Qué mejor bendición que pequeñas manos llenando de “energía de arcoiris” sus platos?

Aunque debo contaros que la cosa ha ido evolucionando…Ahora salen también de sus manos, soles, estrellas y a veces… hasta dinosaurios!
