Today I want to share a brief book review of I book a friend gave me recently and that I utterly love!!

Hoy quiero compartir una breve reseña de un libro que una amiga me regaló y que , como podréis imaginar por el título, me encanta!

Its a book filled with many different projects from different japanese crafters! I love the idea of bringing them together in a book like this!

Es un libro repleto de proyectos  de  distintos artesanos japoneses! Me gusta mucho la idea de reunirlos en un libro como éste!

Antes que nada, perdonad las fotos de hoy porque salieron tan mal..Pero no he querido dejar de ponerlas porque seguro que os gusta el proyecto que vengo a compartiros y quizá os apetezca intentarlo después : )

It ocurred to me to take a rubber stamp I liked and stamp it on a piece of white cotton fabric and then “embroider” or stitch on top of it.

This is the  result:

Se me ocurrió un día estampar unos sellos de caucho que compré hace tiempo y me gustan mucho sobre un  retal de tela blanca de algodón.

Luego coser encima, siguiendo el dibujo del sello y éste fue el resultado:

Truth be told, i dont know how to embroider, so this flower is made with the simple stitch you use for sewing!

Oh and french knotts I learned how to make them on youtube! They are very easy and fun!

La verdad sea dicha no sé bordar! Esta flor está hecha con la puntada más sencilla de todas que se utilizan para coser!

Los nudos franceses sí que quería aprenderlos, así es que busqué un video en youtube! son muy fáciles y entretenidos!

I just combined four diferent colors of thread to give it interest and contrast and turned the fabric into a pillow.

Combiné cuatro colores diferentes de hilos para dar constraste e interés y convertí la tela de algódón en una funda de almohada.

Later on ,I found out the sale special ink for this purpose!

I really, really love my new pillow cover! It did take time, but it couldnt be easier to “embroider” and I  enjoyed it so much!

Más tarde me enteré que vendían tinta especial para hacer ésto!

Me gusta mucho cómo quedó la funda de almohada! Es cierto que llevó su tiempo, pero no pudo haber sido más fácil de “bordar” y lo disfrute tanto!

See the pillow cover below? well, It took me about a year to finish it! LOL Not because it  was difficult to sew, but because I had completely forgotten about it!

I had cut the fabric pieces last april of 2010 and recently found them inside a box. So it was definitely time to sew it up!

¿Véis la funda del cojín de abajo? Pues me tomó un año terminarla! jaja, no porque fuera dificil en realidad, sino porque la había olvidado!

Tenía los cuadraditos de tela cortados desde Abril del 2010 y recientemente los encontré en un caja.!!

They are a mix of japanese cotton and linen fabrics.

Son una mezcla de telas japonesas de algodón y lino.

Many of the fabric squares dont even match! But I still love it : )

I really enjoyed sewing it ( except for the zipper part). In fact I enjoyed it so much that I went ahead and sewed two more for my sons. They chose the fabrics they liked and then I left some white cotton squares for them to paint with fabric markers.

Muchos de los cuadraditos ni siqueira concuerdan,pero no me importa porque aun así me encanta! : )Disfruté mucho cosiéndola  ( a excepción de la parte de la cremallera).

Tanto que me animé e hice otras dos para mis hijos con telas que ellos mismos eligieron y dejando algunos cuadradritos en blanco ,para que con rotuladores de tela dibujasen lo que quisieran : )

A friend of mine just celebrated her birthday and of course I wanted to give her something made by hand, so I sewed this little rain cloud with white cotton fabric and turquoise felt for the rain drops

Una amiga mia acaba de celebrar su cumpleaños y por supuesto le quería regalar algo hecho por mí; así es que cosí esta nubecita de lluvia con algodón blanco y fieltro azul-turquesa para las gotas: )

She just had a little baby boy, so this rain cloud will be hanged up in his room : )

Ha tenido un bebito, así es que esta nubecita adornará su habitación : )

I wonder who came up with the first idea of making a cloud mobile..they are all over the internet with different variations, such as the type of fabric or even diferent things hanging from it. You can find some examples here,here and here. and whole lot more on Etsy in case you want to buy one.

Me pregunto quién tuvo la ide por primera vez de hacer un movil de nubecita..Están por todo internet ahora con diferentes variaciones, como el tipo de tela que utilizan, colores o incluso distintas cositas colgando. Podéis ver algunos ejemplos aquí ,aquí y aquí y en Etsy..muchisimos más! en caso de que os apetezca comprar una.

La Primavera tiene una magia especial..Te hace querer limpiar la casa ( y si no,pregúntenle a mi amiga Geo ), empezar con nuevos proyectos también primaverales y llenar la vida de color!..

hermosos colores y proyectos sin duda alguna..Algunas personas se casan,otras tienen bebés; yo por ejemplo coso un manta! ; )

It´s my second quilt ever! the first one came out ok,not perfect but it´s a nice little quilt to snuggle up on the couch!

As for the second one…it ocurred to me to sew a new one, when I saw Anna Marias Horner´s Fabric…GORGEOUS . A healthy dose of Springly colors and flowers!

E mi segunda mantita! ! La primera no salió perfecta,pero bueno nos sirve para taparnos( las piernas) en el sillón!

La segunda me dieron ganas de coserla cuando vi las telas tan bonitas de Anna Maria Horner. Una buena y sana dosis de primavera y flores!

But to be honest, I´m a little afraid to ruin such a lovely fabric…I really dont know how to put this quilt together and I really want it to come out great! because the fabric (and the money) are sure worth it!

So I´ll try to sew it very very carefully and iron! ( something I didn´t do the last time)

Para ser honesta, tengo un poco de “miedo” de que no me salga bien y me cargue la tela! Quiero que salga bien!!! porque la tela ( y la inversión) lo merecen!

Así es que esta vez me prometo coserla despacito y con calma y con la plancha al lado ( un gran crimen prescindir de ella en esto de coser quilts)

Fabric always represents  SO many possibilities of creating!

Las telas representan siempre TANTISIMAS posibilidades de crear!

And I know it wont be perfect but to cover my self with these fabrics that are filled with so much  joy, so much color and light…..oh that must be a lovely feeling! : )

Y sé que aun así no quedará como me gustaría pero sólo imaginar taparme con estas telas que desprenden tanta alegría, color y luz..que sensación tan bonita! : )

Hace tiempo que había pensado comprar este libro de Heather Ross, pero no estaba segura. Me he llevado ya algunos chascos con libros de otros autores que he comprado online. Al no poder verlos no puedes realmente saber qué tal son. Pero el otro día encontré este en una tienda y por fin! lo pude abrir y ver con mis propios ojos y me convenció en un instante!

Not only because it´s fisically gorgeous of course! It´s so well edited, the protogpraphy, the styling.. beautifully done!! But the projects I think are lovely too!!

No lo compré sólo porque es físicamente muy bonito claro!  Está muy bien editado y maquetado, es cierto, la fotografía, el estilismo…bellisimo! Los proyectos también se ven muy tentadores!

I´m not a very good sewer, thats true, but that wont hold me back from embarging on a little proyect or two…

No sé coser muy bien la verdad,pero eso no me quitará las ganas de hacer despacito algunos de ellos!

The instructions are very well explained and I just feel like sewing..I like to alternate different activities at a time: stamps carving, sewing, painting…and keep being motivated, inspired with new proyects and keep the creative energies flowing!

Viene muy bien explicado y además simplemente me apetece tanto coser..Me gusta ir alternando actividades, sellos, costura,pintura..y

motivarme, inspirarme con nuevos proyectos que mantienen la energía creativa circulando!

I´ve had this fabrics for a while. They are Heather Ross´s designs too. And now with the coming of Spring I just want to inmerse my self into the yellows, oranges, blues….I seek colors as the flowers strecth out for the sun : )

Hace tiempo que tengo estas telas, también  diseño de la autora: Heather Ross y ahora con la llegada de la inminente Primavera dan ganas de rodearse de colores alegres como amarillos, naranjas, azules..Los busco como las flores los rayos del sol! : )

A couple of weeks ago I had this sudden urge to Sew something! I plugged my sewing machine, took all the fabric out from the cabinet and started pinning and sewing like crazy!

Oh that was fun! You can not restrain the creative impulse, but only follow it!  It was so much fun and I really understood how creative energies nurture you! When I finished, the study was a complete mess ( one day I´ll dare to show you ; ) scraps of fabric everywhere, thread..but I didnt mind, I was so filled with joy. One must feed the soul, and so I did, It craved for some very tasty sewing ; )

Here´s the result, a new cushion for my new bed!

Hace un par de semanas tuve un impulso inesperado por coser! Conecté la máquina de coser , saqué todas mis telas del armario y comencé a cortar tela, poner alfileres y a coser como loca! jaja! Fue tan divertido! NO se puede reprimir el impulso creativo, sólo seguirlo! Ahora entiendo cómo las energías creativas te nutren! Cuando terminé la habitación estaba desordenadísima!! ( algún día me atreveré a mostraros una foto)  pero no me importó, es lo de menos, estaba muy contenta con el resultado.

Uno debe alimentar el alma y así hice, tenía antojo de  costura!!!

The Japanese fabric is one I bought long time ago but I dont quite remember where…sorry..

it patiently waited folded inside the drawer to be turned into something pretty and useful..And so it did!! : )

La tela es una japonesa que compré hace tiempo pero no recuerdo dónde..lo siento..

Aguardó pacientemente  doblada dentro del armario para ser convertida en algo útil y bonito y así fue! : )

Ever since I´ve seen little cute softies around the web here and there I´ve felt inspired to make my own! They dont require complicated sewing skills as you can see below.

I also love owls. I think they are not only beautiful but magic! The owls were totems for the native americans and many other animals of course. They believed each animal represented a symbolic trait that we aspire to achieve . They said owls were wise because they could see what others couldn´t, among other things that envolved mistery and magic.

Anyway, I like to think of the qualities the owl brings when I see these two friends I sewed with love. I really like them, specially the first one. I made it from a small piece of vintage fabric a friend gave me. The eyes and beak and the wing is embroidered.  Hope you like my little sewing project! ; )

Desde que he visto pequeños peluchitos tan monos en internet me he sentido inspirada a hacer los mios! No requieren habilidadesd e costura muy complicados como podéis ver abajo en las fotos.

Me encantan los búhos. Creo que no son sólo muy hermosos sino mágicos! Los búhos, así como muchos otros animales, eran totems para los nativos americanos. Creian que cada animal representaba rasgos simbólicos de cualidades que como humanos queríamos conseguir. Decían que los búhos eran sabios porque podían ver lo que otros no podían, entre otras cosas que incluían la magia y el misterio.

De todas formas, me gusta pensar en las cualidades que el búho representa cuando veo a éstos dos que cosí con tanto cariño. Me gusta en especial el primero. Lo hice de un pequeño trozo de tela de los 60 que una amiga me regaló.  Sus ojos, su pico y su ala están bordados. Espero que os guste este pequeño proyecto de costura : )

A couple of days ago I came up with this little  bunny pincushion. Very easy to sew but I have to confess I can´t use for the pins anymore..I dont like to needle this cute face! neither did the kids like it when they saw me. So I was just allowed to do it once, just for the picture. After that, it wasn´t a pincushion  anymore but just a plush for the kids. They “rescued” him,  cuddle him at night and tuck it to bed, so I´m guessing it is a better life for a pincushion, I mean, bunny..

Hace unos días hice este alfiletero de conejito. Fue muy fácil coserlo, pero tengo que confesar que no lo puedo utilizar más para los alfileres.  No puedo clavárselos en su carita que me mira! Tampoco le gustó ésto a mis hijitos cuando me vieron hacerlo. Así es que sólo lo hice una vez para la foto. Después dejó de ser un alfiletero y se convirtío  oficialmente en peluche para los niños.  Lo “rescataron” y ahora lo abrazan por las noches y duerme con ellos, así es que imagino que esta sí es una mejor vida para un alfiletero, digo, conejito de peluche.

Since we moved to the new house I knew i wanted to sew our own and special cushions for the couch. I have been inspired by incredible and talented friends and their work. So, since I´m a begginer I thought of something simple like  a house with a tree, some flowers..
